Salta, located along the Lerma Valley in northwestern Argentina, is the provincial capital of Salta Province. Founded in 1582, it’s known for its Spanish colonial architecture and Andean culture. Many visitors commonly compare it to the towns of the Andalusia region that is found in southern Spain.
Each year travelers from around the globe visit to explore this hidden gem. Geological wonders, colonial architecture, excellent weather and tourist friendliness have helped to make Salta a major destination. The Calchaqui Valley and the Cafayaye Wine District are the main features. However, the towns museums, artisan markets, nearby salt flats and Tren de las Nubes (Train to the Clouds) are a few of the local attractions. Also of interest are the dramatic rock formations of Quebrada de Humahuaca and the pre-Inca archaeological wonders found at Tilcara.
